Having the same thing, it's intermittent but STO is unplayable for most of the day because of disconnect on zone change, then unable to log back in because of account server or login server timeouts:

Yep, totally unplayable. And since I am having absolutely no connectivity issues with anything else I fail to believe that the problem is on my end. I guess I picked the wrong week to upgrade to a paid account.

Hop numbers 4 and 5 seem to have a time put stop before further letting packets be sent.

@puppydog1

Hop # 3 is timing out on you.


For both of you, the last time out is normal in traceroutes as the trace stops at the firewalls.

To first point out, whether you can play anything else is irrelevant to the problem at hand. Different games, different routes, yadda yadda.

As Darth said, hop 3 is timing out. Whether that's periodic or not, you'd have to run multiple traces over a period of time, but that's also close to your ISP's end of things (trace starts at your PC, through your ISP's infrastructure, then through various relay points owned by different ISP's, then PWE's end, in this case, it's timing out along SBC Global/AT&T's end of the route).

You're also getting some high numbers in hop 12, which is one of Cogent's Boston area hubs. That unfortunately has been problematic for quite some time.

I wouldn't call it irrelevant - if he can reach other sites normally, it proves the problem is not local.

It's not responding to ICMP, which could be entirely by design. While it makes troubleshooting more difficult, this is becoming more common it seems.

You can try using the proxy connections in Options on the game launcher that might help.

Asking your ISP for a new public IP address might help too.

Southeast Texas here and the same problem many of the others have stated. If I do login as soon as I zone somewhere I get a connecting to server timeout. Having an extremely hard time logging in. I didn't have this issue until today.

I cannot reach the patch server either. This has gone on for over a year, and I would like to one day play STO again, since I paid for a lifetime membership. I am a guild leader and I have not been able to help my guild/fleet in all of this time.

Ever since PWE took over, I have not been able to reach the patchserver.crypticstudios.com. TRACERT says it reached perfectly. The download of the installer is perfect; I have done it multiple times. When I try to play the game or to simply login, I get a little white box in the upper left corner. Every time there is a new patch, I try again and it does not work. I have re-installed the game five times. I am a lifetime subscription holder. I have bought items from the online store. I have previously developed content in Foundry. I have played on TestLive. Nothing has been functional since the the PWE takeover.

I recently tried the Beta of Neverwinter, and it worked beautifully. So I do not understand why STO will not cooperate. I play a lot of other games, including Age of Conan and The Secret World. They are the most demanding game clients on the market at DX11 and they work perfectly.

I am a CenturyLink customer, and my connection works for every other vendor on the market that I have tried.

The 2nd hop stalls but seems to connect and reconnect, just like it appears the server is doing in game. It seems to be connecting and disconnecting in a loop until the server times out. You get 'server not responding' then that goes away for a second and then comes back over and over.

The game, for me, is unplayable Good luck finding the problem and fixing it.
